This season, our 63rd, Schola Cantorum delves into the union between poetry and music inherent in almost all choral works. We’ll explore how music, lyrics, and voices create works of art greater than the sum of their parts.
From telling stories (Broadway Sings and El Mesías), to celebrating holidays and families (A Storybook Holiday) to the monumental (Mozart’s Requiem) to the personal (The Poet Speaks), we cover a vast range of choral literature. It’s united by the propulsive combination of music and words - melodies, harmonies and poetry.
We cap off our season with an as-yet to be commissioned work to be premiered at The Poet Speaks concert, based on this fall’s winning poem from our 4th Poetry to Music competition.
Schola Cantorum is offering Santa Clara County students in grades 9 to 12 the opportunity to hear their original poem turned into a choral piece by acclaimed composer Maria Thompson Corley. The world premiere will be sung at our The Poet Speaks concert on May 23, 2027. See contest rules.
